Unpacking objects

How do I unpack an object and save the contents to my inventory?

I've tried right-clicking the object and trying to view contents, but that hasn't been successful, since the contents are squeezed into a micro-thin area.

Now the contents has appeared on the left-hand side of the screen and I was able to unpack the contents to my inventory. So it looks like I was experiencing a bug before. I've no idea what was different this time. If I experience it again, I'll put details in a bug report.
